Pool Deck Installation & Resurfacing
A pool deck has two jobs a patio does not. It has to stay grippy when it is soaked, and it has to stay walkable after a full day of sun. We build for both. Traction comes from the finish itself — a broom, a knockdown texture coat, a hand-troweled cool-deck surface — and we can put a grit additive in the sealer where traffic concentrates, at the steps and around the shallow end.
Heat is more a color problem than a material problem. Light, warm tones send back a lot more sun than a dark slab does, and a textured surface holds less heat against bare feet than a hard-troweled one. We steer you toward finishes that stay comfortable at the hottest part of the afternoon, and we will tell you plainly when a color you like is going to cook.
The deck also has to meet the coping cleanly. We tie the new surface to the coping with an expansion joint so deck movement cannot crack your tile or lift the stone, and we slope everything away from the water so runoff and deck cleaner do not end up in the pool. On a remodel we cut and remove the old deck without disturbing the coping, tile, or the plumbing running under it, and we can reset coping that has already come loose. On a new build we sequence behind the pool contractor and pour once the shell, plumbing, and electrical are in and signed off.

Common questions
Can you replace the deck without damaging the pool?
Usually, yes. We cover and protect the water and cut the old deck out in controlled sections so nothing loads onto the coping or the tile, and we locate the plumbing and electrical under the deck before the saw comes out. If the coping is already loose or cracked, we will show you and include it with the deck rather than working around it.
How do I keep it from getting too hot to walk on?
Color first, texture second, sealer third. A light, warm tone reflects the most sun, a textured surface holds less heat against your feet than a slick one, and the wrong high-gloss sealer can undo both. We will show you samples in the sun before you commit.
Is a textured deck hard to keep clean?
No harder than any outdoor surface. A blower and a hose most weeks, a wash a couple of times a year. Texture does hold a little more dirt than glass-smooth concrete. That is the trade for not slipping next to a pool, and it is the right one.
Do you work with the pool builder on a new pool?
Yes. We schedule around their sequence and pour after the shell, plumbing, and electrical are in and signed off, so nothing has to be opened back up. Put us in touch with your pool contractor early and we will handle the coordination between us.
